What counts as backup
Your live records sit on your phone; backup copies them where a broken screen cannot reach (backup module). Back up after big changes — new products, opening balances, price revisions — and on a fixed weekly slot regardless. Confirm the backup completed; an assumed backup is not a backup.
The five backup rules
- Weekly rhythm at minimum; daily during season peaks.
- Verify completion every time — check the confirmation, not just the button.
- Keep login and recovery details written somewhere safe and separate from the phone.
- Test restore once on a spare moment, so disaster day is not practice day.
- Protect the phone itself: lock screen, careful app installs, cautious lending (mistakes guide).
Restore without panic
On a new phone: install, verify ownership, restore, then spot-check balances and recent sales before the counter opens. New and changed data since the last backup gets re-entered — another reason the rhythm must be weekly, not yearly.
