The naming formula
Brand + product + variant + size, in that order, every time. "Shan Biryani 50g" — never "biryani shan", "Shan bryani 50 gm", or "Biryani (Shan)". Include the size always: 50g and 100g are different items with different margins. Write the convention once, pin it at the counter, and every hand follows it (training guide).
Five naming rules
- No abbreviations that others cannot decode — write what a stranger understands.
- One language consistently; mixed Urdu-English spellings split one item into two.
- Size and unit in every name; weight, volume, and pieces never implied.
- Categories assigned at creation, matching shelf organization (organization guide).
- Barcodes/PLUs for unbranded goods so loose items scan like brands (barcode setup).
Cleaning existing mess
Export or list duplicates, pick one canonical name per item, merge quantities, and delete the rest — an afternoon's work that fixes every report downstream (reports module).
