The running-truth principle
Counting occasionally answers "what was true last Sunday". Managing continuously answers "what is true now" โ because movements self-record: sales deduct (POS), deliveries add (purchases), returns adjust both directions. Your Sunday count then becomes verification of small differences rather than archaeology of big ones (weekly check routine).
Reorder levels: the quiet profit lever
Every "sorry, khatam hai" is a sale handed to your competitor across the street. Setting sensible minimums per product turns restocking into reading a list โ the method (and why fast movers need different levels than slow ones) is covered in setting reorder levels and using alerts daily.
Shrinkage gets a face
- Difference between recorded and counted = specific, sized, dated.
- Patterns point causes: transport damage vs handling vs pricing errors.
- Worker-facing honesty improves when counts are routine, not accusatory (staff context).
- Catch-up guides: finding low stock, reducing loss.
